IDEA/CONCEPT
This window is dedicated to the memory of Monsignor Pádraig Ó Fiannachta — renowned scholar, linguist, poet, and former parish priest of Dingle. He commissioned the window before his passing in 2016.
Monsignor Ó Fiannachta was a distinguished biblical scholar who translated the Bible into the Irish language, producing the Biobla Naofa.
The central concept of the design features St. Jerome holding the Biobla Naofa. Like Monsignor Ó Fiannachta, St. Jerome was a linguist and translator, rendering the Bible from Hebrew into Latin.
Above St. Jerome stands the figure of Archangel Michael. The holy well behind this church is traditionally associated with St. Michael. At the apex of the window is the Holy Spirit, represented by a dove — a deeply symbolic element. Monsignor Ó Fiannachta used the dove as his personal emblem, appearing on his Bible and business cards, to signify the Holy Spirit descending upon us. After his death, the dove in the window was depicted ascending, symbolizing his spirit rising to heaven.
